Where did we start?
Our goals were getting more phone calls, and ranking well in our local area. As we’re in a very competitive market, we make a point to keep an ongoing presence online.
We started with one Google Business Listing at Coolangatta on the Gold Coast, but have since expanded to include Brisbane, Melbourne and a second Gold Coast listing at our new office in Burleigh Heads.
What was our Local SEO strategy?
The campaign started by optimising our Google Business Listing using the optimised content we’d already written for the website.
This ensured that if customers who were looking online clicked through to the website, they would have a good experience interacting online, finding the information they would need and be easily able to find contact details to call.
Then, research was done on the industry and our competitors to find the best keywords to target. Once those were found, a content plan was created for posts that would support the website and capture the terms that people are already searching for. It was also important to use optimised content for each post, and link it back to a relevant page on the website so that Google was making the connection between the post and the service offered. In the beginning, the strategy focused on services on the Gold Coast, but as we expanded our service areas so did the content strategy.
Another part of the strategy was citations and listings in local business and niche directories, which help to give the business a presence in different areas of the web and offer more opportunities for them to return in results.
Google is constantly testing new options and changing the ranking algorithms. We make a point of remaining current and leading the industry with embracing any enhancement or new functions google releases. We believe it’s important to really be at the forefront of what’s happening in the online world as it is constantly changing and evolving daily.
Where is this client now?
It’s a point of pride that our various listings rank so well in Google Local and Google Maps. In fact, when the owner of the company is in appointments with potential clients anywhere on the East Coast of Australia, he’ll get them to search for an SEO Company and we’re usually number one in the maps pack if not listed multiple times.
This has had a demonstrable effect on client acquisitions for our business many times. Most notably, a potential client contacted us after searching for an SEO company and seeing Digital Surfer rank for multiple positions. She was looking to rank her business in multiple locations and seeing that gave her the confidence that we would be able to do it. We were the first digital marketing agency she called.
Now, we receive a steady stream of enquiries that come through our Google Business Listing every month. These enquiries are for a range of our services including website designs, SEO and Local SEO.
In February 2020, our results have been going great. We’re in the top 3 for 90% of our keywords across the four locations. There has also been an increase in actions taken from our multiple GMB listings, notably clicks through to our website, from a total of 69 in February 2019 to 110 in February 2020
Though we saw a downturn in activity over 2020 due to Covid-19, our local campaign has still been going strong. The number of clicks from the Google Business Listings to the website has actually increased, from 110 in February 2020 to 138 in February 2021.
