Where did we start?
The client had a website that was several years old, and hadn’t been updated in some time. They wanted a fresh, professional website to keep up with the very competitive auto mechanic industry in Brisbane. There was also a consideration of needing the pages to improve search engine traffic without starting an SEO campaign.
The first step was to work out with the client what they wanted for the website and how they wanted to present their business. This ensured we understood not just their current requirements but what they needed in a website as the business grew.
What was our strategy for designing a new website?
To begin, we created a new website design based on the client’s ideas. For this, research included looking at other websites in the auto mechanic industry to see how they were presenting their business. This helped in the visual sense when creating a new website as it needed elements that would give a polished feel. The website also needed to have both a visual impact and content focused for better search engine results.
Keyword research was completed for the services this client offers and the locations they want to focus on. This informed the URL structure that was used for the site, as the pages needed to be indexed by Google for specific terms that would rank. Further to this, all of the meta titles and descriptions for each page were completed, as this again helps to begin positioning the pages strategically on Google.
As part of building the website, new content was written for the home page and additional pages. This was to make sure the services were optimised and up to date, while still incorporating the main keyword for each page. In some places, existing content on the site could be repurposed, and in others completely new content for the service or location was created.
Additionally, the new site was designed for use on mobile devices, desktops, and smaller screens. This was particularly important as more often than not, Google searches are performed on a mobile device, and Google indexes the mobile version first because of this.
Where is this client now?
Between since the site was built, this client has seen some great results from their website. On average, the website is getting 176 visits per month, which for a small business is a really good achievement. Additionally, the client has confirmed that they’re seeing an increased number of enquiries from the suburbs around Yeerongpilly (where the business is based), due to the location pages that were created for the surrounding area, such as Marooka or Greenslopes.
